Who's speaking?

Gail Muller

In her own words, Gail is ‘an adventurer, author, speaker and life coach’.  Drawing on her personal experiences of overcoming life-changing challenges, Gail uses stories to empower and guide people forward. Her best-selling books Unlost and Do Hope combine a rare mix of wisdom, empathy and inspiration, in a highly accessible and personal way. 

Gail is passionate about the power of storytelling and works with aspiring, new and experienced writers to help find and refine their voice.

Sam Blair

Sam describes himself as “an ego-maniac with a heart of gold”. A critically-acclaimed director and filmmaker, his credits include Ronnie O’Sullivan: The Edge of Everything (2023), Make Us Dream (2018) and Keep Quiet (2016).

Using sports and sportspeople as a springboard, his films delve deeply into the human condition, revealing profound insights about identity, ambition, resilience and the impact of external pressures on personal lives.

Ian Russell-Hsieh

Taiwanese-British author and journalist Ian is a contributing writer to Mr Porter, and his work has also featured in The Guardian, Dazed, Highsnobiety and others. Ian’s debut novel I’m New Here (2024), is a deeply moving narrative that explores themes of belonging, identity, and resilience.

Ian’s writing often delves into the complexities of personal transformation and the challenges of adapting to new environments. With a rare ability to convey humour in darkness, Ian will be talking about the weird and surreal, and how this can help writers find emotional truth in fiction.
